An anniversary gift with wedding song lyrics and is personalized April 25 2016, 1 Comment
They say you should give paper on your first wedding anniversary. This tradition of gift giving was forefront in Coy's mind when she asked me to make her something to give her hubby Joe for their first. She knew she wanted something with their wedding song lyrics and initial of their last name.
She also wanted a card to write a personal message to Joe.
Plus it had matching turtle themed gift wrap/tag. Actually, the whole gift looked like this when combined with an additional piece of art we framed:
She'll have to share it by posting a picture of it on their wall after it's hung. Silly me forgot to snap a pic before I wrapped it.
After laying out the design in my head, I started with the song lyrics in my own style calligraphy writing on watercolor paper I distressed with inks. Measurements were taken so that the writing scrolled across the brown tinted paper to fit under the white mat but still be visible within the shadowbox if looked at from an angle.
Next was making the initial "S". In order to still have the writing show through the letter, I thought tissue paper would be best. Now that I have a GelliPlate block I paint my own paper with acrylic paints, like shown below:
And lastly was the matching turtle card and tag. Each had a black paper turtle with red heart, one of which had Glossy Accents applied to give it a 3-dimensional look.
When it dries, it dries clear and thick. I thought it was easy to use and learned to go thin on application where needed. As you can see the turtle's feet have excess which caused it to pool together. (Joe, I meant to do that!)
I understand they've exchanged gifts already today and I've been given the go ahead to share with you one of their anniversary gifts...homemade straight from the heart.
Wishing two of my best friends a Happy Anniversary, may it be as wonderful as you.
